Cut your electric supply bill in HALF by switching to a green supplier (do it today!)

We all heard how electric supply rates were going to go way up as of January, and they have. Eversource's residential supply rate is now 24.17 cents per kilowatt hour, up from 12.05 cents per kilowatt hour in December. United Illuminating's rate also essentially doubled, now at 21.94 cents per kilowatt hour.

But has anyone told you you could be paying about half as much by switching to a 100% renewable energy supplier? Probably not, and that's pretty dopey.  You'd think @CTDEEPNews would be hammering away at that message, but it doesn't seem like they are.  It doesn't seem like anyone is.

Sure, switching to solar is better yet, but not everyone can do that.  But you CAN switch to a renewable energy supplier and save. A lot.  Eversource residential customers can save 53% by switching their supplier to Major Energy (11.39₵ per kWh, fixed for 5 billing cycles) or 44% through Think Energy (13.50₵ per kWh, fixed for 36 billing cycles).

UI residential customers could see similar savings 11.39₵ per kWh with Major Energy (fixed for 5 billing cycles), or 12.90₵ per kWh with Think Energy (fixed for 36 billing cycles).

How to Switch Energy Suppliers

  1. Get your latest electric bill. You'll need a few different pieces of info from it.
  2. Go to the Energize CT Rate Board. (Scroll down for a screenshot.)
  3. Select your electric company, either Eversource or UI.
  4. From the filters on the left , choose 100% RECs – it's like getting all your electricity produced by renewable sources. (A Renewable Energy Certificate (REC) is an tracking mechanism for solar, wind, and other green energies as they flow into the power grid. Check out the EPA's short video above for more.)
  5. Choose your supplier. We prefer the longer fixed rate, even though it's a tad more expensive. You do you. You can switch suppliers again at any time.
  6. You'll be prompted to enter other information, like your electric account number, etc. and submit your request.
  7. Watch your email and spam folder for confirmation emails. It may take a couple months for the rate to take effect.
